Families, communities, cities, counties, and the State of Texas should retain authority over matters that do not legitimately require control by a more distant level of government.

The larger and more remote government becomes, the easier it becomes for the People to lose meaningful influence over the decisions affecting their lives.

We support restoring responsibility and decision-making to the most local appropriate level.

Strong families create strong communities, and strong communities reduce dependence upon distant institutions.

The Texas Conservative Party supports policies that respect the natural authority and responsibility of parents, protect children, strengthen families, and preserve the ability of communities, churches, charities, and voluntary organizations to solve problems without unnecessary government interference.

Government should not attempt to replace the family or assume responsibilities that properly belong to parents and communities.

Parents possess the primary responsibility for the upbringing and education of their children.

The Texas Conservative Party supports transparency in education, meaningful parental involvement, academic excellence, local accountability, and educational environments that prepare children to think, reason, communicate, and participate responsibly in society.

Parents should have access to the information necessary to understand what their children are being taught and how public education resources are being used.

Education should educate.

It should not become an instrument for political indoctrination.

Self-government depends upon public confidence that lawful votes are accurately counted and that election procedures are transparent, secure, and consistently administered.

We support election systems that are understandable, auditable, transparent, and open to meaningful public oversight.

Election rules should protect both access to lawful voting and the integrity of the process.

Election administration should never become a partisan weapon.

The People cannot effectively supervise a government they are prevented from seeing.

The Texas Conservative Party supports strong open-government principles, meaningful public-record access, transparent budgeting, understandable legislation, and sufficient time for citizens to examine government proposals before action is taken.

Public business should be conducted publicly whenever possible.

Complexity and secrecy should never be used to prevent the People from understanding what government is doing in their name.

The People should not need a team of attorneys to understand what their government is asking them to approve.

Legislation, ballot propositions, public notices, and government communications should be written as clearly and honestly as possible.

The Texas Conservative Party supports plain-language standards designed to reduce ambiguity, unnecessary legal jargon, and misleading descriptions of government actions.

If the People are expected to consent, they must first be able to understand.

Texas must protect the resources necessary for future generations while respecting property rights and local communities.

Water policy, major development, industrial projects, energy infrastructure, and large resource-intensive facilities should be evaluated transparently and with serious consideration for their long-term effects on local residents.

Communities should not discover after major decisions have already been made that their water, land, infrastructure, or quality of life has been committed without meaningful public participation.

Responsible stewardship requires both conservation and accountability.

Growth alone is not a measure of good policy.

Development should respect existing communities, private property, infrastructure capacity, water availability, public safety, and the long-term interests of Texans.

State and local governments should not transfer unreasonable costs or risks from private development onto existing taxpayers and property owners.

Economic development should serve communities rather than require communities to sacrifice themselves for development.

Government has a legitimate responsibility to protect life, liberty, and property while respecting constitutional rights and due process.

The Texas Conservative Party supports effective law enforcement, accountable public institutions, equal application of law, and policies that protect peaceful citizens from violence, theft, trafficking, exploitation, and other criminal activity.

Public safety and individual liberty are not opposing principles.

Both depend upon government remaining within the rule of law.

Human trafficking is an assault upon individual liberty and human dignity.

Texas must aggressively pursue those who traffic, exploit, abuse, or profit from vulnerable people while ensuring victims have meaningful avenues for protection and recovery.

Government agencies, law enforcement, communities, churches, charities, and citizens all have roles to play in identifying and combating exploitation.

Accountability must extend beyond individual offenders to any institution that knowingly enables or conceals trafficking activity.

Texans should be free to work, build businesses, create products, provide services, and pursue opportunity without unnecessary government barriers.

We support a competitive economy in which government establishes fair rules rather than selecting winners and losers through political favoritism.

Small businesses and independent entrepreneurs should not be forced to navigate regulatory systems designed primarily for corporations with teams of lawyers and lobbyists.

Economic freedom is an important part of individual independence.

Government should represent the People—not the highest bidder.

The Texas Conservative Party is concerned about the influence of large corporations, powerful lobbying interests, political consultants, and organizations that obtain privileged access to government while ordinary people struggle to be heard.

Business has an important place in a free society.

Political favoritism does not.

We support greater transparency regarding lobbying, government contracts, political influence, and conflicts of interest.

The federal government possesses limited powers.

Powers not delegated to the federal government remain with the states or the People.

Texas should vigorously defend its lawful authority and resist federal overreach when Washington attempts to exercise powers that were never granted to it.

Federalism is not hostility toward the Union.

It is part of the constitutional structure designed to preserve both union and liberty.

The right of the People to keep and bear arms is a protected constitutional right.

The Texas Conservative Party supports the lawful exercise of that right and opposes policies that treat peaceful citizens as though the exercise of a constitutional liberty is itself suspicious conduct.

Government should focus its criminal-justice resources on individuals who commit crimes rather than burdening the People who obey the law.

A free society requires the ability to speak, worship, assemble, petition government, publish ideas, disagree, and challenge those in power.

These freedoms are especially important when an opinion is unpopular.

Government should not use its authority to compel political or religious conformity, suppress lawful dissent, or punish citizens merely because their views offend powerful institutions.

Freedom requires room for disagreement.
